Prison System is the NYS Board of Parole
One of my major concerns regarding the prison system is the NYS Board of Parole. The board is constantly denying parole based on the instant offense. That is no longer a reason that they can give. My fiancé has been denied based on that 3 times. The board is not looking at the institutional record, the Compass score or anything else. They are basically resentencing our loved ones over and over again. And then you do an administrative appeal and the Board has 4 months to reply and doesn’t meet that deadline. Then the inmate can file an Article 78. Our parole system in NYS is in dire need of change. Some board members have been on the board for years and years. There should be a limit that they can serve. We in New York are trying to get the Safe Parole Act passed to help get our loved ones home.
